When deciding what format your new business website will take, traditional website or blog, you have to figure in a few important things.
The first very important factor is cost. If you are starting a new small business and cost of everything is on your mind you are coming to the realization that your website is going to be a major expense. Not only the website will cost a lot of money, but the marketing and maintenance of your site will add considerably to empty your accounts.
Besides cost, are time, and maintenance issues.
Here’s a look at some differences between traditional websites and blogs like WordPress.org sites:
- Traditional websites are much slower to build than are blogs.
- Traditional websites are much more costly to build.
- Experts must build traditional websites, whereas someone with a little knowledge and applying themselves can learn everything necessary to setup their own business blog site.
- Traditional websites are much more difficult to optimize for good search engine results (Google). WordPress blogs are easily optimized.
- Maintenance to traditional websites is more costly because it’s more difficult.
- Traditional websites are much more easily customizable than WordPress blogs.
- WordPress blogs have thousands of free themes (templates) and many high quality paid themes that run about $70 each. You only need one.
- Once your WordPress site is built you can easily add content and edit the content that is already published live on your site.
Those are just some differences that popped into mind. There are many differences between the two types of business websites you could choose. If you have a lot of money to spend and you want to do it “right” probably the best plan of attack will be to have a web developer create a traditional website for your business and then add a WorpPress blog to a subdirectory of that domain so you can add articles any time you wish. It’s not difficult.
Some excellent easy to use beginner WordPress premium themes with a lot of options you can configure easily are those found at “WooThemes.com” and diythemes.com – their new theme that’s getting a lot of attention and accolades is: Thesis. Have a look and see if you might want to try putting it together on your own. If you need help, we’ll have some training courses available here to help you in the next couple months as we finish up some web development projects of our own.
Good Luck!
